08:58 am: Egermancy, everybody to get from street!
This is not an emergency. But if we do have one, I am confident that my postal carrier will deliver the vital items I need to survive.

Here is what I got in my mailbox on Saturday last:

Isn't it cute? It's about 3 inches tall and 1-1/2 inches wide. Supposedly it would be used to supply medicine that will save us from the dreaded biological terror attack. Presumably it would not then be empty. I am going to save mine until it's worth at least $1,000 on Ebay.

For those who want to see the full-color accompanying flyer, .

What I want to know is, if we have a more likely emergency, say, like that little 6.8 earthquake we had back in 2001, only bigger, will the postal carrier bring me blankets, three days of food and water, and toilet paper?

Bonus points to the first person to name the movie from which my subject line comes!

I wasn't actually going to cheat, mind you...

But I was curious to know the source of your subject line and I knew I didn't know it so I googled the phrase. I got 'Did you mean: "Germany, everybody to get from street"' which for some reason amuses. -em.

I have my Google language set to "Elmer Fudd", so when I click on your link, I get:

Youw seawch - "Egermancy, everybody to get fro - did not match any documents. Oh, dat scwewy wabbit!

Which amuses me even more than being afraid of Germany.

Give it time -- as soon as movies_michelle has a free moment, she'll win my challenge. I'll just say the movie is from the 1960s.

I had no idea one could pick Elmer Fudd as one's google language! I see they also offer esperanto as an option, but not, sadly, modern Scot's dialect: "Nae matches, ye feckin' cunt" I'm assuming one would get, unless it was "Stoap yer greetin', wee lassie; Ah was kiddin oan. Hev yer results." -em.

feochadn has beat movies_michelle to the very valuable Bonus Points by identifying the film as "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming". I do hope you are familiar with this comedy classic. If not, I'd be happy to lend you my DVD.

I knew that you could set the language to Elmer Fudd, but you don't actually see all the jokes until you use Google long enough. "Dat scwewy wabbit!" was one I hadn't seen yet.

The ways in which I love Google have not yet stopped growing.

You beat movies_michelle! Congratulations!

Sadly, there is no prize for being first. All you get is bonus points.

I own the movie. Alan Arkin and Carl Reiner are priceless, and Brian Keith is great as the sheriff. Hm. Maybe I'll rewatch it this week.

Aw, I missed it.

(Appointment this morning went fine. It took them 10-15 minutes to find a vein. I have a bruise. When I told her I tried to give blood before, she just stopped, looked at me, and said, "NEVER try to give blood.")

Are you okay with being blogged? I thought this was an interesting security story, so I sent it to Bruce Schneier (aka my boss), and his comments are scheduled to show up on Friday. It includes your LJ link (as "a recipient's reaction").

If not, let me know ASAP, since I'll be going out of town tomorrow morning early.

And either way, thanks for the interesting post!

Well, I don't think my LJ is terribly interesting on the whole, so I hope it doesn't encourage people to look around further, but no, I don't mind. I still have the wee emergency box and flyer on my desk at work. It amuses people no end.

Happy Thanksgiving!
